The City and CSLTEA. Local #1 are beginning negotiations for a successor Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with our current one due to expire on 9/30/07. For new employees, this is the contract that defines your wages, hours and working conditions. The City has indicated that it may be interested in a multiyear contract, but we are just starting the process, so we don’t have a lot of details yet. One issue we know will come up is the City health plan. The City had a consultant provide them with a study earlier this year that predicts significant increases in health costs over the next few years. How that effects what the City proposes will be seen in these negotiations. What this means is that we as City employees need to stick together during these negotiations. It may sound like an over used word, but the only strength we have is our solidarity. Once we get started with these contract talks, we will be holding membership meetings to keep everyone informed on where the negotiations are going. If you have any questions on the negotiations, or on any Union issue, please contact one of your Union officers or call the Local #1 office at 626-2565.
